Hernia can cause a noticeable bulge under the skin, as well as pain and discomfort. Hernia occurs when an organ (most often the intestines) or fatty tissue poke through a weakened area or tear in the abdominal wall or groin. Most hernias eventually need to be hernia repair surgery to prevent complications, reoccurrences and other serious problems.
Our hernia surgeon have years of experience evaluating and repairing all types and stages of hernias, including complex cases.
Hernias have different names based on where they are located. At our clinic, we diagnose and treat all types of hernias, including:
An Inguinal hernia (the most common type of hernia) occurs when the intestine protrudes out of the abdominal wall into the inguinal canal in the groin. This is the most common type of hernia.
Common in people over the age of 50, a hiatal hernia happens when a part of the stomach tissue protrudes through the diaphragm into the chest cavity.
A common occurrence in babies below 6 months old, an umbilical hernia is a condition when the intestines push through the abdominal wall, causing a bulge around the belly button.
